Insert Plate Repairs
Restore Vessel Bulkhead

EAPL recently completed specialist bulkhead repairs using precision-fabricated insert plates and certified welding to restore the vessel’s structural integrity.

The worn sections of the bulkhead were first identified, marked, and removed using oxy-acetylene cutting equipment operated by the EAPL platers. Following removal of the damaged material, the perimeter edges of the cut-out sections were ground smooth using angle grinders, and a chamfer was prepared on one side to allow for installation of the insert plate.

Measurements and templates of the cut-out areas were then produced by the EAPL platers. These templates were transferred onto new steel plate within the customer’s workshop, where the replacement insert plates were fabricated. During manufacture, care was taken to ensure that the plates included the required chamfers and radiused corners.

Due to restricted access into the tank/forepeak, together with the extent and location of the worn areas on the bulkhead, the insert plates were produced in three separate sections. Once fitted into position, the insert plates were fully welded by EAPL certified welders, completing the repair works.
