Petrol Tank
Modification Works

Upgrade works on petrol tanks 11, 11X, 12, 12X, 13, 13X, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18Y, 18X and 18 at Ricardo Site in Shoreham. Provide development, design, procurement, manufacture and installation labour for enlarged bespoke manways into tanks and new ATEX rated fill and vent lines.

R&D Specific
Challenges

Initially worked with Ricardo site team to understand their requirements (goal) and develop concepts as to how this can be achieved.

Once concept design was finalised and agreed, EAPL then developed the designs in detail, which included sourcing fixtures and fittings needed to meet customer requirements.

This enabled the project to be costed, tendered and awarded.

In the execution phase of the project we had to:

  • Develop and prove stainless steel welding procedures and have these third party approved (WPQR), develop the skills of the team and qualify them against the new procedures.
  • Develop methodology to manufacture the pipes and manway which where bespoke designs developed for the project.
  • Produce a methodology and conduct risk assessment for the conduct of the workson site. We only had access to half the tank farm at a time, with the other half still in use by Ricardo.
  • Continually revise the methods for delivering the installation onsite, adapting to the arrangements as we progressed works to ensure safety, quality and customer satisfaction was achieved.
