Steel Support
Structure Restored
The works were essential to reinstate the structural integrity required to support the ship-to-shore conveyor system. During the project, all ship-to-shore operations were fully shut down to allow the works to be carried out safely and efficiently.
The first phase of the project involved EAPL appointing specialist scaffolding contractors to scaffold the entire structure. The scaffold was fully enclosed using Monoflex sheeting to provide protection and containment. Prior to the commencement of steelworks, EAPL also engaged specialist water blasters to clean the entire structure. This process removed existing paint and corrosion, exposing the compromised steel beams that required replacement.
Once identified, the non-compliant beams were carefully removed using crane lifts, and new steel beams were installed in their place. After all replacement beams were securely installed, the entire structure was repainted to complete the works.
The structure measured approximately 27 metres in height and 12 metres square, incorporating multiple working levels throughout. The project was completed within the specified timeframe and to the highest standard, once again demonstrating EAPL’s capability to successfully deliver complex structural works.
Stage 1 has now been completed, with EAPL progressing towards Phase 2 of the project.
