Woolwich Ferry
Grid Repairs

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of essential repairs to the Woolwich Ferry Grid (South Terminal), commissioned by Transport for London (TfL). Following a rigorous tender process, EAPL secured the contract and commenced work on 17th February 2025.

The primary task, designated MGUR 1, involved the meticulous removal and replacement of damaged Greenheart timber (304mm x 304mm x 8400mm). This operation required precise planning, adhering strictly to TfL’s safety protocols and working within tight tidal windows provided by the River Thames.

Specialist crane operations were employed to safely remove old timbers and install new Greenheart timbers and associated cross bearers. Despite the complexities and time-sensitive drilling requirements, EAPL’s expert team executed these critical activities efficiently, ensuring crane resources were optimally utilized without delays.

Further repairs included the replacement of pile connections using robust 30mm set bolts, nuts, washers, and securing split-end timbers with durable bolted clamping brackets across various grid locations.

Thanks to close collaboration and thorough inspections by the Woolwich Ferry Project Management Team, we successfully completed all works on schedule, maintaining operational continuity.

We’re proud to have contributed to maintaining the safety and reliability of Woolwich Ferry services.
